Weiner

Documentary | USA 2016 | 96‘ | English OV

In 2011, Anthony Weiner tripped over a sex scandal. A diligent young New York Congressmen and member of the Democratic Party, he had sent revealing pictures of himself via Twitter to a number of women – even after getting married to Huma Abedin, an inner-circle staff member of then Secretary of State Hillary Clinton. He had to resign. In WEINER, Elyse Steinberg and Josh Kriegman accompany the politician during his 2013 primary campaign for Mayor of New York City. The bomb goes off in the middle of his comeback attempt: Weiner has continued his »sexting« even after his resignation. However, the red-blooded politician will not cave in so easily. A gripping behind-the-scenes look at US politics in an election year, enabled by the fact that Kriegman used to be on Weiner’s staff from 2005 to 2006. Rather than just piling on to the prevalent disdain for the political class, the co-directors have managed to create a film that actually exposes the complexity of modern media and power systems.
