Trapped in a failing marriage, Helene Brindel loses the last shred of hope when she feels that God has abandoned her as well. In celebrated brain scientist and self-help book author Eduard E. Gluck, she sees a chance to emancipate herself. However, the charismatic professor has his own personal demons to fight. When the two meet, these seemingly opposing characters are magically drawn toward each other. Reluctantly, they become closer – and enter a world in which love is both a trial and a promise. In his film based on the eponymous novel by Scottish author A. L. Kennedy, Sven Taddicken (EMMAS GLÜCK) directs a cast of German stars: Martina Gedeck plays the housewife who slowly learns to respect her own needs, Ulrich Tukur is the seemingly confident scientist who has actually lost control of his life. At the Karlovy Vary International Film Festival, GLEISSENDES won the award for best European Film and the international film critics’ prize.
