Little Men

Feature Film | USA, GR 2016 | 85‘ | English OV

This inconspicuously entitled movie is an emotionally charged family drama, a subtle coming-of-age film, and a complex story about gentrification. The close friendship between two New York school friends is shaken up by a death in one family. Jake’s father inherits a house in Brooklyn. Tony’s mother runs a small boutique in the building. Despite everyone’s best intentions to be amicable and to treat each other fairly, they get into an argument over the future rent of the business, and the conflict also affects the relationship of the children. Ira Sachs (LOVE IS STRANGE) once again proves to be a master of nuance and precise observations. Or in the words of The Hollywood Reporter: »In his last three films, Mr. Sachs has perfected an emotional realism that stands out against the murmuring restraint and sociological bean counting of so many U.S. indies.« The high-profile cast includes Greg Kinnear, Alfred Molina and Paulina García (GLORIA).
