After a long time working in Tajikistan, anthropologist Paul Dédalus returns to France for a new job in the public sector. He is stopped at the border and questioned by intelligence officers. Is Paul a spy? The interrogation provides a look back at Paul’s childhood and youth, a time shaped by his love for the beautiful, yet capricious Esther. Arnaud Desplechin has long been a star director in his native France. His films are regularly in competition at the Cannes Film Festival. In Germany, however, he is yet to be discovered by a broader audience. MY GOLDEN DAYS provides a sequel as well as a prequel to his second feature, MY SEX LIFE… OR HOW I GOT INTO AN ARGUMENT (1996), but at the same time this film stands on its own. For the sixth time, the director has worked with Mathieu Amalric, who plays the older Dédalus. A real find in this romance in the tradition of the Nouvelle Vague is young actor Quentin Dolmaire.
