Chrieg

Feature Film | CH 2014 | 106' | Subtitled English

When his parents feel they can no longer cope with him, Matteo is sent to a cabin in the Alps to be taught manners. Once the troubled young man gets there, however, he does not find a reformatory disguised as an adventure camp, but a kind of nihilist utopia where adults have no say in anything. The kids have taken over. From their lofty fortress, they wage a campaign against the adult world that increasingly drifts off into chaos. LORD OF THE FLIES and A CLOCKWORK ORANGE are distant inspirations, but WAR stands on its own with its peculiar combination of quintessentially Swiss themes – freedom in the mountains – and its mix of the realistic and the fantastic. Though they have very little or no acting experience at all, the young actors deliver impressively direct and raw performances. The debut feature film by director Simon Jaquemet (born in 1978) was a deserved winner of the main prize at the Max Ophüls Film Festival 2015.
