Salvo

Feature Film | IT, FR 2013 | 104' | Subtitled English

Following a shootout, Salvo pursues a man into a vacant house. The mafia hit man forces the man at gunpoint to divulge a name. Then he pulls the trigger. On a littered beach, Salvo enters another house, apparently looking for the person he was actually supposed to kill. He only finds the target’s blind sister instead. Strictly speaking, he should kill her, too… SALVO integrates two really contrasting strands of the crime film genre in a surprising and compelling way: the realism of mafia dramas like GOMORRAH on the one hand, and the stylization of Jean-Pierre Melville’s films (LE SAMOURAÏ, LE DEUXIEME SOUFFLE) on the other. Freshmen filmmakers Fabio Grassadonia and Antonio Piazza won the Grand Prize in the International Critics’ Week section for SALVO at Cannes Film Festival 2013.
