Exile

Mini-Series | GB 2010 | 60' | OV

A failed, embittered hack writer by his own description, Tom has lost his editorial position at a men’s magazine in London as a result of sleeping with his boss’s wife. Now he’s with his dad, who suffers from Alzheimer’s, stuck where he was born in northern England, a place he thoroughly detests, trying to get a grip on how his life went so awry. Browsing his father’s papers, who also used to be a journalist, Tom is eventually reenergized when he comes across a string of clues connected to a scandal he had set out to expose years ago. How, though, can he wrest the memories from his father’s feeble brain? A gripping three-part thriller-cum-family drama produced by Paul Abbott (CRACKER, STATE OF PLAY, SHAMELESS) that stars charismatic John Simm (24 HOUR PARTY PEOPLE) as the lead actor. Jim Broadbent, who was recently in theatres in the ultimate HARRY POTTER film, shines in the challenging role of the dementia-stricken father.
