The Clink of Ice

Feature Film | FR 2010 | 87' | Subtitled English

One day, Charles Faulque’s tumor rings his doorbell. In the shape of a man – a middle-aged man in a gray suit, with curly hair and dark eyes. »I thought we should get to know each other«,” he says matter-of-factly through the intercom. The author first tries to shoo the stranger away, then attempts to kill him, but is left with no choice: the tumor has come to stay at his house for good, and never leaves his side again. Even at age 71, Bertrand Blier still lives up to his reputation as an enfant terrible of French cinema. Much like in his unforgettable 1970s films starring Gerard Depardieu (e.g. GOING PLACES, GET OUT YOUR HANDKERCHIEFS), he once again demonstrates his skill as a master of satirical black humour. As he took on sexual mores in a frontal assault back then, he is equally pugnacious now in tackling a deadly enemy. Never has there been a film about cancer as lively and funny as this one.
