Treme

TV-Series | USA 2010 | 10x60'/Pilot 80' | OV

The new, eagerly anticipated TV series from David Simon, creator of THE WIRE, which is thought by many to be the best series ever. Once again, Simon deals with a US city that has seen better days: THE WIRE tended to Baltimore, whereas this time the focus is on New Orleans, or more specifically, its Faubourg Tremé (pronounced »trə-MAY«) neighborhood, one of the city’s oldest, and one famed for its marching bands. Simon and co-creator Eric Overmyer tell the stories of about a dozen people who live in Tremé – a trumpet player, a DJ, a restaurant owner, a lawyer, a professor, and others –, and who try to get back into their everyday routines three months after Hurricane Katrina. All the problems in the city notwithstanding, and in contrast to THE WIRE, the general mood is not one of desperation. Though these people have been severely tried, they struggle to stave off the demise of their beloved home with a passion that is outright contagious. Adding to that contagious potential, the soundtrack features great songs from New Orleans artists such as Dr. John, Allen Toussaint, and the Rebirth Brass Band.
