Nollywood Babylon

Documentary | CA 2008 | 74' | Subtitled English

Nigeria has risen to the position of the world’s number three film-producing country in a mere 15 years. 2500 films are produced annually in »Nollywood.« The Canadian documentary NOLLYWOOD BABYLON goes on a search for clues in the Nigerian capital, Lagos. The film provides fascinating insights into production routines as it follows the making of a film by director Lancelot, from the casting calls to the last shot. At not even 40 years of age, Lancelot has already shot more than 150 feature films on video. Excerpts from Nollywood productions that keep coming up constitute particular highlights, since they take the audience away into what is, to European eyes, a bizarre trash world full of gangsters, violence, and witchcraft.
